Knott's News: November Update

January 16, 2026
Blog Post

Note from Brad:

In November, we finally reopened the government after the historically long and disastrous Schumer Shutdown. I was thrilled to vote, as we did in September, to pay our troops and federal workers, restore air travel, help those in dire need, and continue serving the American people here in Congress. Now we can resume the important work of passing legislation to improve the lives of Americans.

In summary, the continuing resolution we passed, and President Trump signed, will fund the government through January 30, giving us additional time to pass the remaining appropriations bills to fully fund the government. It also included three key appropriations bills, of which there are 12 total. We passed budgets for the Department of Agriculture (which includes SNAP), the FDA, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and military construction projects.

There is still a lot of work to do before January 30, but it’s important we carry out the process appropriately rather than allow extreme waste, fraud, and abuse to seep into the legislation.

Importantly, resuming legislative activity means we can work on the Surface Reauthorization bill, a critical piece of legislation from the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. It deals with the Highway Trust Fund, highway safety, public transportation, research and development, passenger and freight rail, reauthorizing various grant programs, and modifying rules governing the trucking industry. Understandably, it has massive implications for North Carolina’s 13th District as our communities grow and businesses rely on safe, efficient roads, so I’m working hard to ensure our priorities are brought to the front of the line.

We also continue to progress in our mission to defend the homeland. My bill to assess and attack the influence of Tren de Aragua came to the House floor for a vote, and I’m proud to say it passed with bipartisan support

We also voted on and passed an important bill to better compensate disabled veterans. The Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act will ensure those who served can keep pace with the cost of living, and I am proud to have supported it.

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with loved ones and enjoy a safe and healthy Christmas season. As always, thank you for your support as we continue this important mission. God bless you and God bless the United States of America.

Sincerely,

Brad’s Tren de Aragua Bill Passes with Bipartisan Support

On November 19, the Tren de Aragua Border Security Threat Assessment Act, which Brad introduced, passed the House with bipartisan support. This legislation would require the Department of Homeland Security to conduct a comprehensive border threat assessment to identify the criminal threats Tren de Aragua (TdA) members pose to our communities.

It further mandates that DHS develop a strategic plan, using all levels of existing law enforcement, to mitigate these threats and prevent TdA from continuing to proliferate in the United States.
