Community Project Funding Requests

 

Title of Request: Smithfield License Plate Camera Initiative

Proposed Recipient: Town of Smithfield, NC

Amount of the Request: $240,000

Purpose: The Town of Smithfield would utilize funding to purchase and position 20 new License Plate Reader cameras in high traffic areas, local park access points and high crime locations will assist in minimizing crime, improve the effectiveness of law enforcement, increasing officer safety, and other strategic priorities to include perpetrator apprehension.

Title of Request: Replacement of Runway 5L/23R and Taxiway B, at Raliegh-Durham Airport (RDU)

Proposed Recipient: Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority

Amount of Request: $10,000,000

Purpose: The Raliegh-Durham Airport Authority would utilize funding to continue to the replacement of existing runway 5L/23R and Taxiway B. The new runway would allow RDU to access new markets and improve existing long-haul domestic airline service by allowing aircraft to carry more passengers and cargo.

Title of Request: Southwest Harnett Wastewater Pump Station and Force Main Project

Proposed Recipient: Harnett County

Amount of Request: $5,000,000

Purpose: Harnett County would utilize funding for the placement of a regional wastewater pumping station with an accompanying 20-inch sewer force main. This project is needed to accommodate the growing demand for housing in the Southern Harnett County area, adjacent to Fort Bragg, the majority of which is related to the Department of Defense and Fort Bragg.

Title of Request: Fuquay-Varina 1.5-Million-Gallon Elevated Water Storage Tank

Proposed Recipient: Town of Fuquay-Varina

Amount of Request: $2,000,000

Purpose: The Town of Fuquay-Varina would utilize funding for the construction of a 1.5-million-gallon elevated water storage tank. This project is needed to improve system pressure, provide emergency water reserves, and meet peak usage demands as the town experiences rapid growth. As the largest municipality in southern Wake County, Fuquay-Varina requires the infrastructure upgrade to support residential, commercial, and emergency services, while reducing the financial burden on taxpayers.

Title of Request: Cleveland Water District 1 MG Elevated Water Storage Tank

Proposed Recipient: Johnston County

Amount of Request: $7,600,000

Purpose: Johnston County would utilize funding for the construction of a 1-million-gallon elevated water storage tank. This project is needed to resolve current system deficiencies and prepare for continued population and industrial growth in Johnston County. The project would increase the region’s water resiliency, support economic development, and directly benefit public health and safety.
