Knott, Hudson Bill to Advance a New Veterans’ Home in Harnett County Passes the House

WASHINGTON D.C. - Congressman Brad Knott (NC-13) issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 10159, a bill he co-led with Congressman Richard Hudson (NC-09) to transfer land facilitating the construction of a new state veterans' home in Harnett County.
"Tens of thousands of veterans call North Carolina’s 13th District home, and they’ve earned care worthy of their service,” said Congressman Knott. "Since the Fayetteville veterans' home closed in 2024, our state's heroes in central North Carolina have been without a home built for their care. I am proud to work with Congressman Hudson on this bill to advance a new veterans' home in Harnett County, which will provide quality, long-term care for those who served our country."
“Our veterans kept their promise to serve, and we have a responsibility to keep our promise to take care of them,” said Congressman Hudson. “After the Fayetteville State Veterans Home closed, veterans were forced to relocate across the state, many far away from their families. Today’s passage brings us one step closer to building a new home near Fort Bragg and bringing that care back to our community.”
Background:
- The North Carolina State Veterans Home in Fayetteville closed in 2024 due to disrepair and health and safety concerns.
- H.R. 10159 transfers a 20-acre parcel of land from the Fort Bragg Training Area to the State of North Carolina to build a replacement facility.
- The new site sits roughly 15 miles from the original Fayetteville location, along the western access road to Fort Bragg.
