WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Brad Knott (NC-13) sent a letter to United States Attorney General Pam Bondi and Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove urging them to prioritize prosecutions and investigations against organized retail theft groups committing organized retail crime.
“The risk of Organized Retail Crime (ORC) is not only associated with the violence displayed during the act of retail theft but also with health risks posed by consuming stolen goods like baby formula or pharmaceuticals, which may be improperly stored or tampered with. ORC also endangers Main Street businesses and the economy,” the letter reads. “ORC has caused $125.7 billion in lost economic activity.”
Congressman Knott was joined in the effort by Reps. Rick Allen, Mark Amodei, Michael Baumgartner, Aaron Bean, Vern Buchanan, Mike Carey, Earl “Buddy” Carter, Juan Ciscomani, Brad Finstad, Vince Fong, Pat Harrigan, Dusty Johnson, David Joyce, Laurel Lee, John McGuire, Barry Moore, Michael Rulli, Pete Stauber, David Valadao, Daniel Webster, Tony Wied, Robert Wittman, and Steve Womack, all of whom signed the letter.
